Hello, my name is Jo and I am an appliance addict. But darn it! It’s not like I hoard them or hide them away in cabinets or boxes (okay, maybe some of them). It’s no big secret. I actually use them — regularly — well, most of them. Unless they are the ones I have secretly hoarded away in a cabinet or a box. (I wish I had a sarcasm font.) Anyway, if you are an appliance addict, then we have a special treat for you today! We are hosting a WonderMix Giveaway!
Homestead Chronicles is taking part in a group giveaway for this very cool WonderMix Kitchen Mixer with a meat grinder attachment! Retail value of this prize package is $619.80 (when purchased separately). One LUCKY WINNER will score it!

First, let me briefly give you my take on WonderMill and WonderMix. As you may know, a few weeks back, I got an electric WonderMill Grain Mill and started milling (grinding) my own flour. You can find my first three recipes using the freshly milled flour right here. I love my WonderMill and will never go back to store-bought flour. Then I discovered that the WonderMill has a sister product . . . the WonderMix Kitchen Mixer which has several optional attachments that you can purchase. I got the one with the blender, but the winner of this giveaway will get the meat grinder attachment, too!
This mixer is high capacity and can take whatever you dish out. It has a 900 watt motor and direct drive high torque transmission. It can mix and knead up to eight loaves of whole wheat bread at once (blows my mind . . . I didn’t believe it either until I saw it with my own eyes!) and a BPA-free mixing bowl! I admit it. I am impressed!
Other WonderMix Features:
- 3 Speeds + Pulse
- Heavy Duty Tru-Mix Dough Hook
- Convenient bowl handle
- Cord Storage Compartment
- No Walking Base
- Overload Protection
- Quiet Operation
- Dishwasher Safe Bowl
- Safety Bowl Locking System
- Double Beating Whisks
Both the WonderMill and the WonderMix are made by Brownwick LLC out of Pocatello, Idaho and are designed, engineered and licensed in West Germany. They also make a hand grain mill for grinding flour without power. I have one of those too, but I have not used it yet. It is called the Wonder Junior Deluxe Grain Mill. (Told you I was an addict!)
The WonderMix “Kitchen Mixer” works more like a Bosch than a KitchenAid, so you do not have to turn it off to add more ingredients. It does all the work, even the punching down and rekneading. You don’t need to handle the dough at all until it is time to shape it into loaves or rolls. Another big plus for me is that this “climbing the dough hook” thing is not a problem with the WonderMix. This does not mean the dough doesn’t climb the dough hook — it does. It just means that in the WonderMix, it’s supposed to do that. It is designed to handle the climbing dough while continuing to knead and develop the gluten properly (and quickly!).
Unfortunately, I don’t have time to bake every other day or even twice a week. I prefer to set aside a day every other week and make enough bread to last a couple weeks, and then freeze it. The KitchenAid will do that (and don’t get me wrong, I still love my KitchenAid), but it involves at least three batches and that is just for sandwich bread. WonderMix solves that for me because I can do it all in one batch, it rises right in the bowl, and when ready, you just hit the pulse and it punches down for you. Just one batch means only one mess to clean up. (I love that part!) Know what is weird? The WonderMix and KitchenAid both have 5 1/2 quart bowls. It’s the design that makes the difference.
Since I got the WonderMill and the WonderMix in my kitchen, I have a new-found love for all things bread (which ultimately may be a detriment because bread is a weakness of mine anyway and I don’t really need the extra poundage around my muffin top). But they have made a huge difference both in the breads we enjoy and my enjoyment of the baking process.
Soon I will be sharing with you some of my latest recipes made using these appliances. I plan to take a stab at Everything Bagels, Cinnamon Raisin Bagels, pizza dough, and several other things. In the meantime, let’s get to the WonderMix Giveaway! Thanks go to Brent & the folks at WonderMill and to all the wonderful folks at the Homestead Bloggers Network! Good Luck Everyone!
